International Design Contest Pelle+ – First Edition 2010
The Genuine Italian Vegetable Tanned Leather Consortium, together with La Sterpaia – Art workshop for Communication directed by Oliviero Toscani, organises the first edition of the International Design Contest Pelle+ for new planning proposals of products for different uses made with vegetable-tanned leather.
The Consortium is looking for unique, surprising, even eccentric projects, able to blend the versatility of the vegetable-tanned leather with tradition and modern vision of design.
We expect to discover new ways and opportunities, to experiment unusual applications, to venture in unexplored fields.
Harnessing creativity and practical and conceptual freedom are to be the incentives for new creations inspired by the extraordinary quality and the uniqueness of vegetable-tanned leather.
We invite to partecipate architects, designers and artists from all over the world and everyone who feels to be up to show something innovative that can be made with this ductile and precious material, so traditional in the way it is tanned, so up-to-date for possible uses.
Projects will be evaluated by a Jury headed by Oliviero Toscani together with the chiarman of the group, Andrea Ghizzani, and made up of internationally well-known figures of design, architecture, contemporary art, fashion and communication: Bruno Collin, Michele De Lucchi, Luca Molinari, Carlo Ratti from MIT of Boston and Akemi Fukazawa from Bunka Fashion College of Tokyo. Upon evaluation, the panel will select the most deserving projects and award them during an award ceremony that will be held in September 2010.
The first three projects will be awarded prize money, but all the partecipating projects will be displayed during the award ceremony.
