International Design Contest for new planning proposals of products for different uses made with vegetable-tanned leather.

La Sterpaia - Art workshop for Communication, in collaboration with Genuine Italian Vegetable-tanned Leather Consortium, organizes the first edition of the international design contest for new planning proposals of products made of vegetable-tanned leather. Vegetable-tanned leather can be used alone or with other materials, freely proposed by the competitors.

The contemporary references realised by famous architects, designers, artists and made by important firms are numerous, to cite some example: the Skin sofa by Jean Nouvel, bags and travel accessories Y’s Mandarina by the fashion designer Yohji Yamamoto, the small armchair S. Elia by Giuseppe Terragni and the LC4 by Le Corbusier, the prototype of city-bike by Gimo’s, the Caprice chair by Philippe Starck, the Folets sandals, the car steering-wheel by MOMO design, the 2Leather bookcase by Rodolfo Dordoni, the Brooks bike saddles, the horse saddles by Guy Chanel and Hermes.

With these references and premises, we are longing for unique, surprising, innovative projects for a new versatility of leather, a vegetable-tanned leather that absorbs the traces of our lives, gets old, but is always contemporary. The Jury, held by Oliviero Toscani is composed by: Andrea Ghizzani president of Italian Vegetable-Tanned Leather Consortium, Pietro Carlo Pellegrini, Michele De Lucchi, Luca Molinari, Bruno Collin, Professor Akemi Fukasawa of Bunka Fashion College and by Carlo Ratti of MIT, Boston will select and award the most interesting projects.

We invite architects, artists and designers to passionately participate to the international design contest. Request module can be found on this page by April 30th, 2010.
