
The boot was born as a vegetable tannery and its traditions have been handed down from father to son until today. The tannery is distinguished by the method of “fattening” the hides, which is still done as 40 years ago: in “tallow” barrels using animal fats and fish oils. The so-called “cowhide” is still produced today, a leather suitable for footwear whose fattening, made on the basis of “luster” (together with oils, jellies and animal waxes) is today as then spread by hand.
In addition to the modern machinery that the current era imposes, Lo Stivale remains faithful to some machines or tools that bring to mind the long-lived connoisseurs of the sector those first years of the beginning of the boom in the tanning industry, when manual labor and rudimentary tools were the real strength.
